Commonly called “8 or better”
To make the highest ranking hand and/or the lowest ranking hand among all active players.
Each player is dealt four hole cards. Next, when making their hand, each player MUST use exactly two hole cards from their hand along with three board cards.
A player MUST use any two of their four hole cards to make their best low hand. All low cards must qualify (be ranked eight or lower). A card may be used high, as well as low. Example: A two of diamonds may be used to make a diamond flush, as well as fit into a low hand.
Straights and flushes have no value for low. A pot is split between the best high hand and best “qualifying” low hand. If no low hand qualifies, the best high hand will win the entire pot.
Five different cards, 8 and lower (any three cards on board along with any two cards from hand). The lower the cards (without pairing) the better the hand. Suit of cards have no value in low.
Best possible low hand: 5-4-3-2-A
Second best low hand: 6-4-3-2-A
Worst low hand: 8-7-6-5-4
