THE PLAY

Hold’em is played with a dealer button, which rotates clockwise around the table. The player with the dealer button is the last to receive cards on the deal.

The first two players seated to the left of the dealer button may be required to post blinds before the cards are dealt.

All players are dealt two down cards (hole cards). There is a round of betting. The action starts with the first player seated to the left of the big blind.

All players have the right to throw away their hand, call the big blind or raise. The action goes clockwise.

Three board cards are dealt and turned face-up in the middle of the table. Another round of betting occurs. The action starts with the first active player to the left of the button.

The next two board cards are dealt face-up, one at a time, with a round of betting following the deal of each card.

The five board cards (called flop, turn & river are “community cards” and are shared by all active players.

A bet and three raises are allowed. The amount of all wagers must be within the posted limits of game, ex: in 6-12 limit, before the flop and on the flop the wager is limited to $6, but on the turn and the river the limit is $12.

Check and raise is permitted.

In all games, the house has the right to place a maximum time limit for taking action on the play of a hand. When, or if, a player is “put on the clock”, the player will have one additional minute to complete action on their hand, after which their hand may be ruled dead.
